Hometown:  Comrade, LA

Bio:  Born in Alexandria on January 1st 1953, Paul’s family didn’t have a hospital bill to pay for his being the first baby of the year, though he cost them plenty after that!  Like so many of his generation, his first exposure to music came through Church.  He also played his mother’s record collection on their home stereo.  His mother’s favorites were

Gospel, like Ernie Ford and The Chuck Wagon Gang, while Paul would favor the early Elvis as well as The Bill Black Combo.  There was always a piano in his house during his childhood, and while both sisters took piano lessons (and play well), his mother took him to guitar lessons in Junior High.

In High School, Paul remembers his music teacher, Margaret Hinton, who was highly regarded in her field.  In his Junior year, he sang the part of Ralph Rackstraw in the school production of HMS Pinafore.  That spring, the music team from Boyce High School won First Place in the state at LSU.  Paul was singing Tenor for that competition.  After that it was worn out 8 Tracks of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, followed by equally used tapes of Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers Band.  His later musical interests were Stevie Ray Vaughan and Dwight Yoakam.

In the mid 90′s Paul wanted to stir his grandchildren’s  hearts into singing at church, so he bought an acoustic guitar to try to teach them Hymns.  A short time later, he met the Arnold Family, and has played with Kyle and Wendell in different bands… and now Southbound!
